    Launch underscores ICCA’s commitment to advancing microplastics science and strengthening collaboration across disciplines

    Washington, D.C (7 October 2025) The Microplastics Advanced Research and Innovation Initiative (MARII), a program of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA), today announced the launch of its new website, marii.org. The platform provides a centralized resource for technical experts studying microplastics across academia, industry, research institutions, and government.

    The launch comes at a particularly timely moment as MARII prepares to host the MARII Summit on Microplastics in Madrid, October 15–17, where leading experts from around the world will gather to share the latest scientific findings and innovative approaches to understanding microplastics.


    The new website serves as a hub for the global microplastics research community, offering:

    • Events – discover details on upcoming MARII conferences, webinars, and workshops, along with highlights from past events.
    • Research funding opportunities – find information about current funding available for researchers that advances the body of science on microplastics, and sign up to receive automatic alerts when new opportunities are announced.
    • Research highlights – explore the latest findings and publications from independent researchers engaged with MARII’s global scientific network.

    “Understanding and addressing microplastics requires collaboration across scientific disciplines, sectors, and regions of the world,” said Marco Mensink, council secretary of ICCA and director general of Cefic. “As part of ICCA’s broader commitment to advancing microplastics science, our new website makes it easier for experts to connect, share knowledge, and access the tools they need to accelerate innovation in this critical area.”

    The launch underscores MARII’s efforts to convene experts and drive new scientific insights. By providing a single access point for information, MARII aims to strengthen collaboration and advance the global understanding of microplastics.
