Registration Opens for MARII Summit, a Global Gathering of Microplastics Researchers
Washington, D.C. – (30 June 2026) – Registration is now open for the 2026 Microplastics Advanced Research and Innovation Initiative (MARII) Summit, taking place November 10-12 in Vancouver, Canada, where leading experts studying microplastics from academia, research institutions, government and industry will come together to advance the science around microplastics.
MARII, an initiative of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA), is hosting the summit in partnership with the European Centre for Ecotoxicology and Toxicology of Chemicals (ECETOC), to provide a forum for experts in the field of microplastics to share and discuss emerging research, identify knowledge gaps, and explore opportunities for collaboration.
“Recent discussion in the microplastics research community has made one thing clear: high-quality microplastics research depends on validated methods, stronger standards and greater alignment across the field,” said Blanca Serrano Ramón, secretary general of ECETOC. “We’re building the Vancouver agenda around that need, bringing together experts from around the world and across disciplines to help tackle some of the fundamental hurdles facing the field.”
As scientific and public interest in microplastics continues to grow, the 2026 MARII Summit in Vancouver is intended to sustain momentum from last year’s event in Madrid. Expert-led presentations will focus on best practices in microplastics research, emerging measurement and analysis tools, environmental and biological modeling, standards development, and regulatory updates.
To support broad participation across the microplastics research community, ICCA is offering registration at no charge for experts from academia, government, industry and research institutions. About MARII
Founded by the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) in 2022, the Microplastics Advanced Research and Innovation Initiative (MARII) is a global scientific forum that brings together experts from academia, research institutions, government and industry to advance microplastics science. Through workshops, conferences and webinars, MARII provides opportunities for scientific exchange, discussion of knowledge gaps, and collaboration on methods, standards and research priorities across the microplastics research community.
About ECETOC
ECETOC is a not-for-profit scientific organisation that brings together experts from academia, regulatory bodies and industry to develop trusted and practical scientific solutions for chemical safety assessment and risk assessment. Through collaborative science, ECETOC aims to support evidence-based decision making and contribute to a safe, sustainable and healthy world.
